Claudia Horn, Becaria posdoctoral de la Universidad de Brandeis, quien provoc\u00f3 discusiones con su conocimiento en el campo.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Also contributing was C\u00e9lina Marie Sc\u00fclfort, a PhD candidate in Rural Development from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and PUCP, enriching the debate with her on-the-ground experience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The event, held from 12 pm to 2 pm in the Large Meeting Room on the 9th floor of the PUCP Social Sciences Complex, attracted a diverse audience interested in exploring innovative and collaborative solutions to address climate challenges in the Amazon.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Se cont\u00f3 adem\u00e1s con la presencia de la Dra. Maritza Paredes, profesora principal del Grupo de Investigaci\u00f3n sobre Estado y Sociedad (GIES) y del Departamento de Ciencias Sociales de la PUCP, quien explic\u00f3 los objetivos del proyecto que lidera,\u00bbVisiones Ind\u00edgenas para la Justicia Clim\u00e1tica\u00bb, resaltando la importancia de incorporar la sabidur\u00eda ancestral en la b\u00fasqueda de soluciones sostenibles.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The International Guest Seminar was made possible through the collaboration and joint efforts of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC - CRDI), the Research Group on State and Society (GIES), the Academic Department of Social Sciences, and the Sociological, Economic, Political, and Anthropological Research Center (CISEPA) of PUCP. This institutional alliance demonstrates a shared commitment to working towards a more just and sustainable future for the Amazon and its inhabitants.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>More value for the forest, but not for the labor that protects it?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Claudia Horn from Brandeis University presented her case study on international cooperation and payments for ecosystem services in the Brazilian Amazon.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Durante su exposici\u00f3n, destac\u00f3 dos posturas que reflejan las divisiones medioambientales internacionales en torno al principio de \u00abquien contamina paga\u00bb en la financiaci\u00f3n clim\u00e1tica. En este contexto, se observa una creciente dominaci\u00f3n por parte de los sectores financiero y agroindustrial, quienes abogan por compensaciones frente a incentivos econ\u00f3micos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Un aspecto resaltado por la Dra. Horn fue el reconocimiento formal discursivo de las comunidades locales, pero tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1al\u00f3 la ausencia de un reconocimiento efectivo estructural del trabajo social reproductivo que protege el medio ambiente. Esta situaci\u00f3n revela una injusta compensaci\u00f3n a los trabajadores verdes, incluyendo a los \u00abguardianes del bosque\u00bb, quienes no son beneficiarios directos de proyectos individuales, sino actores colectivos que demandan y proponen alternativas para los derechos territoriales y la soberan\u00eda alimentaria.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Commodity frontiers and micropolitics of land demands: What future for small forest owners in the Peruvian Amazon?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">C\u00e9lina Marie Sc\u00fclfort, a PhD candidate in Rural Development at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, presented initial findings from her research focusing on rural communities. She emphasized the need for a more detailed understanding of land documentation and titling processes at the family level, highlighting a heterogeneous landscape in land ownership among these communities, which could lead to potential social conflicts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Additionally, she highlighted that land allocation and access are not always tied to ownership, as communal and familial rules influence this aspect. She also stressed the difference between accessing land and having a title, as well as the implications of exercising control over space, such as sharing or lending it in practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sc\u00fclfort tambi\u00e9n hizo hincapi\u00e9 en la compleja relaci\u00f3n entre la titulaci\u00f3n de tierras, la zonificaci\u00f3n y las pol\u00edticas gubernamentales, resaltando la necesidad de comprender mejor las diferentes documentaciones de derechos sobre la tierra, como la \u00abconstancia de posesi\u00f3n\u00bb y la \u00abcesi\u00f3n en uso\u00bb. Finalmente, destac\u00f3 el papel de los recientes cambios en la legislaci\u00f3n, como la modificaci\u00f3n de la ley forestal y de fauna silvestre, en este contexto.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Final Reflections<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Maritza Paredes concluded the event by opening a dialogue, inviting participants to share their thoughts and questions. She ended the meeting with a brief comment, emphasizing the importance of continuing to explore the complexities and challenges surrounding the topics discussed. She underscored the need to continue collaborating and building inclusive and sustainable solutions to promote rural development and environmental
